An Orchard And A Wedding

Roses are red, apples are red, Karin and Matthew’s motif is, well, scarlet red. The couple had a wedding at a beautiful orchard wedding complete with the scarlet and grey motif to represent Ohio, particularly Ohio State University. Red, grey, and ivory speaks vintage when matched together — maybe the reason they had vintage cars bring the entourage to the ceremony and reception, so classy! And let me just compliment Karin’s wedding dress – I adore the way the dress hugged her body in a subtle and classy way.

A special congratulation to Karin and Matt on their beautiful Summer Apple Orchard Wedding!

For their wedding, they decided to return to Karin’s hometown and exchange vows at Wiard’s Orchard in Ypsilanti Michigan, close to Ann Arbor. Ironically enough, the groom, Matt, is actually an Ohio State University Alumni and his part of the wedding planning was choosing the wedding colors: Ohio State Scarlet and Grey! It was a fun treat to see the OSU colors so close to the University of Michigan. Karin and Matt have a special connection and it’s hard not to crack a smile when you see the two of them together. Laughter is such a huge part of their lives and their cheerful personalities can quickly brighten up any room. My favorite part of photographing their day was how natural the photographs of the two of them were. They are so comfortable with one another and not afraid to show their love. It didn’t matter if the camera was there, Matt and Karin were so head over heels that it was easy to capture all the Authentic laughs and smiles on their big day. We had scouted out a few locations at the orchard for portraits the day before their wedding, but also had the special treat of photographing them with some antique cars that belonged to Karin’s grandfather. One of my favorite sets of images is when we photographed them in front of a beautiful navy-blue Ford! Special care was put into all the details of their day- from the unique location, to the rustic shelter house, to the log guestbook, and tree inspired wedding cake, every detail showcased the apple orchard theme. But their wedding was memorable, not just because of the fabulous theme, but the fun, family-focused atmosphere of the whole day. Both Matt and Karin came from larger families and included them throughout the wedding process. Most of the wedding party members were siblings or cousins. The ceremony was very picturesque and was held in front of rows of apple trees and had a backdrop of puffy clouds. Karin’s father was the officiant which was such a neat way to include Karin’s family. The reception that followed was so much fun! The dance floor was packed until late in the evening. We enjoyed capturing all of the excitement and dancing on the floor by friends and family. All who attended had a wonderful time and I know that it will be a wedding they’ll talk about for years to come! I am so excited for Karin and Matt and wish them all the best in this next chapter of their lives together! Enjoy some of my favorites from their wedding!

What inspired the wedding day outfits?

Since the groom was an Ohio State University alum, the couple went with Ohio State Scarlet and Grey in all of their outfits! The groom choose the colors after the bride decided to hold the wedding in her hometown near Ann Arbor, Michigan- home of the University of Michigan. Since there is a large rivalry between Ohio State and the Univeristy of Michigan, the color choice provided some comic relief throughout the whole wedding. Some of the groomsmen who were huge University of Michigan Fans started wearing Michigan stickers during the reception.

Was there any Do it Yourself (DIY) projects? If so, can you describe them in detail?

Karin’s mother played a large role in the decorations. They did many of the decorations themselves. They hung stringed lights and white fabric behind the wedding party table, have triangle garlands in front of the gift and seating chart tables. Although they didn’t make it themselves, one unique thing was a log guestbook, where the couple had guests sign a cut log circle.

What were the highlights from the ceremony & reception?

Ceremony- The beautiful backdrop of the apple orchard during the ceremony was just breath-taking. Also, the wedding party arrived at the ceremony in antique cars from her grandfather’s collection. The guests could see each car pull in to the orchard as the ceremony started. It gave the ceremony almost a Great Gatsby kind of feel.
Reception- This was a packed dance floor of the summer that I saw. There was so much dancing- their DJ, “Book That DJ”, did an excellent job!

Was there a theme for the ceremony and reception?

The theme for the day was an Apple Orchard theme.

What part of the ceremonies do you think was the most memorable for the bride and groom?

I think that the first look session was one of the most memorable parts of their day. When you see the couple interact, there was something so natural about their connection. I think that they were most excited about seeing each other on their wedding day. :-) Their reactions during the first look were priceless.
