Sharon and Anton had their dream come true when they celebrated a luxurious wedding at Hyatt Ziva Cancun. It was a beautiful beachside ceremony underneath a spectacularly gorgeous sky as the couple exchanged vows in the shade of a gorgeous white gazebo.

 As the bride walked the aisle, backdropped by the blue waters, her beautiful dress by Nordstroms sparkled in the sun. The ceremony was emotional and very warm as the soft breeze blew the palms and the elaborate floral arrangements.

Nothing beats sunset portraits at a nearby lighthouse along a rocky landscape.

Finishing a few cocktails, they headed to a beautifully decorated ballroom by Eventos Euforia  where flowers filled the venue! The brightly lit dance floor was ready for everyone to celebrate until the wee hours of the morning. 

The couple was ecstatic as family and friends gathered to show love and support during this heart-warming celebration.

Bechara Sakhnini led the party by singing traditional songs and everyone participated in special dances and fun happenings throughout the night. It was a fun-packed event! A memory to last a lifetime!

It was a fine, bright, and beautiful day when our couple, Traci and Grey, got married. I love how everything was illuminated by natural sunlight that it felt like such a lighthearted and joyful wedding. And this vibe and setting matched with the timeless and classic details created such elegance despite the simplicity. One good illustration of this description is the ceremony venue – with it’s great and beautiful layout and the big windows that allowed entry of sunshine – it was definitely a perfect start for the rest of the day. I wonder what must it feel like to have the opportunity to become the most beautiful woman inside a structure built to house and honor the achievements and legacy of women in the field of arts – because that’s what our today’s feature’s bride felt like the day of her wedding. This couple is undeniably in love with Washington DC (aside from each other, of course) and what better way to celebrate this affection plus their special day than to have it in one of the national museums. Such an amazing and elegant idea. Everything came down perfectly, from the color choices to the setup. The transformation of the hall for the ceremony and then for reception was spectacular as well. Congratulations Ashley and Stanley!

Bride:

What is your story as a couple, how did you meet & fall in love?

We met in Atlanta in January of 2010. We hit it off immediately and soon started talking talk moving in with each other. We both realized that we had a mutual love for Washington D.C. and decided to move in together in a completely different state. We have not looked back since.

What makes the two of you a perfect match?

We complement each other. Our characteristics and personalities may seem different but when you get down to it we have all the bases covered because we are just enough different as we are the same.

How did he (or you) propose?

We had planned to go to a Cirque du Soleil show for a long time and I was looking forward to going. He was very eager to leave and I did not know what the big rush was but went along with it. He surprised me when we arrived there by upgrading us to the VIP tent and I thought that was the big surprise. During intermission when we went back into the tent he got us 2 glasses of champagne and still did not think anything of it. I turned around to look at something and as I turned around he was down on one knee asking me to be his wife. It was perfect.

How long was the planning process? Did you think it was enough time?

We got married in February of 2014 and got engaged in August of 2012. We did not start actual planning till February of 2013 and I thought it was plenty of time.

What was the best advice you received when you were planning your wedding?

The best part of advice that I received actually did not come with the planning process but for the day of. My cousin told me to remember to eat. The day of the wedding, you get so nervous and you forget to eat. I made myself eat and I am so glad that I did because it actually calmed my nerves and made me feel so much better. Also, to remember every single second and memory. It all goes by too fast.

What tips & tricks (“hacks”?) can you share future brides that you yourself have learned during and after your wedding?

I made folders in my email and just put everything there and that helped me to be very organized.

What were some challenges you faced planning your wedding & what would you have done differently to avoid them?

The timeline was my biggest challenge. Nobody had told me how critical a timeline was when planning a wedding and I would have started thinking about it from the moment the process began instead of 2 weeks out. There are so many moving pieces that you really need to start thinking about it long before your planner asks you to.

What inspired your wedding decor? Why did you choose the things that you did?

I always knew I wanted an elegant wedding over everything else and elegant to me is in the form of the colors ivory and gold. From there I chose plum dresses because I got married in the winter. I also wanted a warm tone as little pops of color which I then chose green. With ivory and gold being my two base palette everything else just really fell into place from there.

Where did you save the most money?

We saved the most money by getting a DJ instead of a band. The difference was huge and beyond that, the DJ was the most perfect thing the whole evening and I am so glad that we went the DJ route.

What was the biggest expense?

The biggest expense, like most wedding, is the catering and food.

How many guests were invited in your wedding and what was the final guest count?

140 were invited and 105 showed up.

How did you narrow down your list?

We fortunately did not have to narrow it down too much because when we started making our guest list we said from the beginning that only aunts, uncles, first cousins, and very close friends were going to be invited.

What songs did you use during the ceremony?

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We did not go on a honeymoon and spent a couple of nights downtown and went to a concert of our favorite band that actually played our first dance song.

What are you most excited about for the future?

Being together forever and always looking back at our wedding as one of the happiest days of our lives.

Do you have advice for couples still in the planning process?

Organizing is a big thing and overall just remember to breathe. I remember the last month was the most difficult because that is when all the final answers need to happen and I just remembered to breathe and knew that I could do it.

What would you say, the overall story for this album?

The overall story is a fun and happy couple celebrating with the people they love best.

What inspired the wedding day outfits?

I always knew I wanted lace somehow on my dress and for it to be ivory. I actually found my dress at a bridal show and tried it on a few months later and love it. I thought it was so unique the way the lace went up the chest.

What was your favorite part of the day?

My favorite part (besides marrying my husband) was getting to celebrate and dance with everyone. It was such a blast that I want to relive again and again.

Was there any Do it Yourself (DIY) projects? If so, can you describe them in detail?

There was 1 major DIY that I did and that was the table “numbers”. My husband and I love DC so much and this is the city where we grew our family and got married so we knew we wanted to incorporate that somehow. Each table was named after a special place or monument that we love in DC and I put pictures of those special places in frames and set on the tables where people sat.

What were the highlights from the ceremony & reception?

The biggest highlight throughout the whole night was just having all the people that we love most there celebrating with us. It was so special to have all those people in one room!

Was there a theme for the ceremony and reception?

There was no specific theme other than elegant.

Such a beautiful location for a perfect day. The garden was already lovely enough that it didn’t need further decorations for the ceremony. We were told that this venue was used for “Sweet Home Alabama” – a romantic movie – and I saw the said scene where they had the Oak Hill setting and it’s a shame that they [movie] didn’t utilize this lovely garden as well as our featured couple did. But aside from that, the reception details are noteworthy. S’mores for everyone and nature-y wedding cakes, they really embraced the beauty of the outdoors in this event. Congratulations Kathryn and Marvin!

To the curious and interested, we have embedded the Oak Hill scene at the bottom of this post plus the part where our bride and groom got that sweet phrase on the wooden plank from.

Kathryn and Marvin chose the magnificent Oak Hill Plantation for their beautiful summer nuptials. The venue featured stunning gardens, fountains, gazebos and a historic mansion, which were all featured in the movie “Sweet Home Alabama.” While the wedding in the movie was packed with drama, Kathryn and Marvin’s wedding was sweet, romantic and intimate, with only close family and friends in attendance.

For pictures, we explored the hidden gardens and historic mansion. Kathryn played up the movie venue with a homemade wooden sign saying, “So I can kiss you anytime I want,” a famous line featured in the movie.

The reception was a laid-back affair held in an eye-catching tent. Kathryn and Marvin provided good food and entertainment such as a photo booth, corn hole and a s’mores toasting fire pit. Ending the night was a neon sparkler sendoff. Just like in the movie, this couple had a fairy tale ending to their story.

We’re so used to “trash the dress” features done by bodies of water that having a different variety like this is a nice change. Looking at this album made me think of the word “ethereal“. Maybe it’s the orange and yellow of the leaves, the bride’s outfit matched by the pretty headpiece, or maybe it’s just the way this couple lovingly looks at each other. Whatever the reason is, it made the photos look more alive and (as I’ve said earlier) ethereal. Such a beautiful couple. Late congratulations Kaitlyn and Justin!

Kaitlyn and Justin are childhood sweethearts who married on the 4th anniversary of their first date, in the same town they had their date! Neighbors at first, they went through all of their high school and college years with other significant others, but when they finally got together, it was an unmistakable connection. Kaitlyn kept the menu from the diner they went to on their first date and she kept it in a scrap book along with other mementos she collected throughout their four-year relationship. Kaitlyn and Justin are by far the most gorgeous people I’ve ever met, both inside and out. They are gracious, kind, and humble. As their photographer, I let out a shriek of excitement each time I released the shutter.

Being artsy and crafty on your wedding details is one of the growing trends for decorating your special day. Not only is it fun to do with your friends and family, but there’s this certain kind of pleasure you can get upon seeing your guests enjoy and coo over your creations. However, DIY decors usually give out some sort of casual vibe so it’s a bit tricky to maintain elegance with this vision in mind. But fret not our dear readers! For our feature today is about a wedding that has perfected DIY and elegance (add some ‘vintage’ too for a little bit of oomph). We’ll let the pictures do all the talking – for now. Oh and before we let you scroll down, I wanted to point out how cute the little pink bowties the groom and his entourage wore. Adorable! Congratulations Kylene & Jared!

And apparently the sun is shining down brightly on us today because we have acquired the bride’s comprehensive insight on this amazing wedding!

What is the overall story for this album?

After spending over a year planning our wedding, months hammering out every last vintage-inspired detail, and days personalizing ever aspect of our big day, when everything came together on July 5th the result was leaps and bounds above anything we could have ever imagined. Besides our love for each other and our families, it was the details that made our day so special to us. From the chalkboard signage that was made by my talented mother, to the fans that were tied to tips for how to “flirt like a Victorian,” to the hundreds of origami cranes that were hand-folded to act as our guest book, and finally the bacon bar at cocktail hour (yes, I said bacon bar, it was a surprise I planned for my husband), everything came together beautifully on our cool summer wedding day. We scattered vintage furniture around the venue — white upholstered lounges throughout the garden, vintage-looking cocktail tables and seating near the personalized corn hole game, and masculine couches in the bourbon and cigar bar that we created on the terrace. Add all this to an incredible Guilded Age mansion that sits on a beautiful estate and you have the stuff our dreams are made of.

What inspired the wedding day outfits?

The overall feel of Cairnwood Estate is very vintage and glamorous with lots of metallics and intricate details. We really wanted the wedding day outfits to blend well with this vibe. I’ve known that I wanted a lace, vintage inspired wedding gown for as long as I can remember and I found the perfect Marisa Bridal dress to complement the mansion. I loved the two-toned look of the dress that really made the Alencon lace pattern pop and the vintage details one the gown. I paired the dress with the pearls my mom wore on her wedding day (re-worked into a bracelet) and a brooch bouquet made out of old and new pieces of jewelry. I’ve always loved Sue Wong’s glamorous designs and beaded details, so when I found her blush cocktail dresses on Rue La La I jumped on the opportunity to incorporate them into our wedding as the bridesmaids’ dresses. The men donned grey suits with blush bowties, plaid suspenders, and argyle socks which looked great with our color pallet and the summer season.

What was your favorite part of the day?

The day as a whole was everything we have ever imagined. Everything went off without a hitch thanks to all the fantastic professionals involved and Erin Proud’s team at Proud to Plan. We were able to relax so much more on our wedding day than we have ever imagined. Our favorite part of the day was just seeing everything that we have planned for so long come together in such a fantastic day. We were really able to spend time with our friends and families and enjoy everything we had planned. Something that really sticks out sitting down at the end of the night in our bourbon and cigar bar, on beautiful vintage furniture, with our people we love, smoking a celebratory cigar and having a toast with those around us. It truly was a magical day for us!

Was there any Do it Yourself (DIY) projects? If so, can you describe them in detail?

We incorporated multiple DIY elements throughout our wedding day. I’ve already mentioned my brooch bouquet which was created with from jewelry from my mom’s collection as well as additional pieces that were bought for the bouquet. My talented mother created chalkboards that we used throughout the estate (as the wedding program, a “menu” of events for the evening, signs near our corn hole game explaining the rules, and menus at each bar to name a few). She also framed and placed old family wedding photos on the bookshelves in the mansion’s library (a.k.a. our dancing room). My groom and I folded hundreds of origami cranes that we used as our guest book by asking guests to write a wish on the wings for us. We also offered vintage inspired fans to our guests for the ceremony (we had assumed it would be MUCH hotter than it was! We got married on July 5th, but ended up lucking out with a day that was 78 degrees and sunny!). To each of these fans we tied little cards with tips on how to “flirt like a Victorian.”

We incorporated DIY elements to the table settings for dinner. Each place setting got a signed “thank you” card printed on top of a watermarked drawing of the Liberty Bell that my grandfather had previously sketched (the wedding was outside of Philadelphia and on 4th of July weekend). The table numbers were framed cards that were hand embroidered by my grandmother. She also created a quilted “Happily Ever After” banner that hung from the mantel in the mansion’s dining room. The caterer helped us create a “Bacon Bar” as a surprise for the groom and we decorated it with metallic and antique-looking pig figurines that we collected. Along the same lines, we also created an after dinner “Bourbon & Cigar Bar” on the back terrace of the mansion.

What were the highlights from the ceremony & reception?

We hired an acoustic guitar duo from Synergetic Light & Sounds to offer music during our reception and cocktail hour. Their acoustic renditions of Can’t Help Falling in Love With You, God Only Knows, Make You Feel My Love, and All You Need is Love were beautiful additions to our ceremony among a grove of trees next to the mansion. One of the highlights for me was the beautiful pieces of vintage furniture courtesy of Maggpie Vintage Rentals that we used to decorate the mansion. We placed white upholstered pieces to create a lounge in the side garden, antiqued cocktail tables around the terrace, vintage chairs and side tables as a sitting area near the corn hole, and masculine pieces in the bourbon and cigar bar we created on the terrace.

If you ask my husband what the highlights were I’m sure he would mention the surprise bacon bar we set up during cocktail hour. Karen Spire Catering created a bar that had all different types of spiced and sweetened bacon, bacon donuts, bacon-wrapped bites, bacon lollipops… I even snuck a bacon cookie before walking down the aisle!) He also thoroughly enjoyed the personalized corn hole set on the terrace with “Mr. Utah” and “Mrs. Utah” bean bags. My husband and I met and feel in love at Penn State University, so we highlighted some PennState details throughout the night. From the “We Are” cake topper, to the Penn State Creamery ice cream, to the surprise appearance from a flat cutout of Joe Paterno everyone (Nittany Lions and not!) felt like they were in Happy Valley for a second.

Was there a theme for the ceremony and reception?

Aesthetically we stuck to a vintage and romantic theme. We really tried to build off the amazing character and details that Cairnwood estate already has by adding the additional vintage furniture as well as an abundance of mercury glass pieces, candles, and beautiful flowers. I really cannot think of a more beautiful place to get married, so our goal was to add details to the mansion without taking away from everything it already offered.

What part of the ceremonies do you think was the most memorable for you?

Walking down the aisle, seeing my (now) husband, and seeing so many friends and family who had traveled from so far was by far the most memorable thing for me (and from the opposite viewpoint for my husband!). The acoustic music, abundant flowers, and setting amongst a grove of trees was just perfect for our ceremony!

Anything else you would like to add ?

One of the unique aspects of our wedding was the venue. Cairnwood Estate does not have a typical ballroom set-up. The space was divided up into three separate dining rooms, a grand hall where we had our first dance, a library where the dance hall was, and a slew of BEAUTIFUL outdoor terraces and gardens. While this set-up is not for everyone, it fit right into our dreams. By incorporating many DIY features, bringing in vintage furniture, and filling the space with so much love, Cairnwood Estate truly became our own personal castle for the day. I wish I could go back and re-live the day over and over again — and thanks to Rebecca Barger Photography, I can!

I know the weather is getting quite chilly so our feature today can serve as a nice reminder of one thing to look forward to in the upcoming months – spring! This elegant wedding was adorned with what makes that certain season beautiful, flowers. Lots of flowers. The cake was subtly designed with embossed floral details. The reception tables were adorned with it as well. And lastly, the portraits were taken in a lovely garden that had blossoms in purple, orange, and white. Ah, this just makes you long for the return of spring. Anyway, congratulations Jessica & Kristopher!

What would you say, the overall story for this album?

Jessica and Kris are a quiet city couple that had a beautiful country club wedding. It was a perfect spring day in April and even though it rained the day before and the day after, the sun shone on us wonderfully that day.

What inspired the wedding day outfits?

The attire was very classic and elegant. The groom and groomsmen looked particularly dapper.

What was your favorite part of the day?

We had the groom and groomsmen purchase cigars so that we have pictures in one of the bar areas of the club. During the reception they all went outside to smoke them. It was a blast to photograph both parts and they really enjoyed their cigars! The bride’s dad even joined them.

Was there any Do it Yourself (DIY) projects? If so, can you describe them in detail?

I know that the bride made the brown flowers on the table with the seating cards. They are made out of paper and she did an amazing job!

What were the highlights from the ceremony & reception?

My favorite part was the dad’s speech. It was funny and genuine and just absolutely perfect.

Was there a theme for the ceremony and reception?

Spring luxury.

What part of the ceremonies do you think was the most memorable for the bride and groom? Guests?

I definitely think the dad’s speech would be the most memorable for the guests. And perhaps the great dances from the best man and groomsmen. I would say for the bride and her mom, one of the most memorable moments would be when her mom saw her in her dress for the first time and burst into tears.
