On the morning of her big day, the blushing bride adorned a stunning red and gold two-piece Lehenga and intricate Indian jewelry. After a morning of prep, the groom came to pick up his wife to be, and the wedding party continued on to the soft sands of Nizuc beach for the picturesque ceremony. After the 126 guests were happily seated, the groom kept the tradition alive by entering on a bright red Mexican rickshaw to complete his Barat. Now that’s something you don’t see every day. A gentle breeze ruffled the brides jet black curls and the sea gently lapped against the shore as the couple declared their undying love for one another. Ramesh Malhan, the chosen Officiant, prepared a perfect Indian-fusion ceremony, complete with Mangalsutra, which left the father of the groom brimming with pride. After laughs had been shared and tears of joy had been shed, the wedding party retired to the sophisticated oceanfront A-Kan terrace to enjoy the panoramic ocean views for cocktail hour. The bride took advantage of this break to transform into her red carpet worthy white wedding dress and jewel-studded Christian Louboutin bridal shoes, adding the fusion into this Indian-fusion wedding. The loved-up couple chose the magical Sian Kaan Ballroom for their wedding reception, a breathtakingly beautiful hall with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the lush Mayan jungle. Delicate blush and gold accents were strewn around the room, while blooming rose bouquets by Vanessa Jaimes and flickering white candles marked the center of each table. The look of awe on the guest’s faces as they entered this impressive ballroom was something we’ll never forget.As the bride, a vision in white and the handsome groom entered, the DJ began spinning on the decks and the celebration truly began. If there’s one thing these newlyweds know how to do, it’s throwing a party. Luckily, the Sian Kaan Ballroom had plenty of space to dance. As the bride and groom took to the floor, a glittering firework display shot up from the ground, providing the most magical backdrop to their first dance. From this moment on, the laughter, amazing dance moves, flowing champagne and cheeky tequila shots never stopped. After 8 months of careful planning, both the team at Mango Weddings & Events and the happy couple couldn’t have asked for a better Indian-fusion wedding.

Sanjay and I are non stop! We met and were engaged in 8 months, then we planned this insane wedding over the next 8. Now, we are expecting our first child less than a year later! The most brilliant part of all this change is that nothing was planned. We weren’t looking for anything the night we met, and our child was also one of those pleasant surprises that crop up and give a complete shock.

What prompted the decision to have the wedding at this particular venue?

Sanjay and I were not sure if we wanted to travel too far for our Destination Wedding. While we wanted to be in a magical exotic place, we also wanted all our family and friends present. Well, the Hamptons was the perfect fit. It felt new and fresh, but was not that hard to get to. Oceanbleu, in particular, has a lovely beachfront and a formal sophisticated ballroom – a combination not so easy to find.

What was the ‘inspiration’ for your wedding style, wedding colors, etc.?

Modern Indian. I wanted to incorporate my heritage with today’s modern look. I chose to keep the night before Sangeet Party very colorful and traditional and took over a local Vineyard on the North Fork of Long island. The wedding day and night was more modern and clean. I used only Red and White with clean designs for the most part on the day I got married. This mix kept everyone satisfied.

Did you have any special touches/traditions that you incorporated into your ceremony/reception?

1, 000 Roses covered every inch of the alter where we wed on the beach. I felt this contrasted and created a beautiful juxtaposition that I hope was appreciated and will be remembered by my guests.

What are your most vivid memories from the wedding day? Favorite photos?

The cold! It was a cold sunny day in May. One that I will never forget. My guests were wrapped in blankets and towels on the beach creating a hilarious, but delightful afternoon.

What You’ll Need

Purchase bouquets of silk flowers (any type you want) as well as fishing line, a large sewing needle and a hot glue gun with sticks. This is all you need to create these beautiful hanging flower strands. It’s attractive with just one type or color of flower, but you can also use a variety of colors for a charming and whimsical look.

How to Do It

Remove the blossoms from the stems of your artificial flowers. If the blossom is just one piece of fabric, you’re fine but if it’s more than one, you may need to hot glue them together so they don’t fall apart. Next, thread your sewing needle with a long strand of thin fishing line. You’ll want to think about the length from the floor to the ceiling when measuring out your fishing line.

Tie a knot in the end of the fishing line (opposite end of the needle) and then thread the flowers over the fishing line by inserting the needle in the middle of the flower and pulling it through the other side. If you want the flowers to sit directly on top of each other, don’t tie knots. However, if you want the flowers spaced out, tie knots every few inches in the fishing line before putting a new flower on.

Voila – you can create your own hanging flower strands for an elegant, beautiful wedding and you can save a ton of money in the process.
